The Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns hosted a webinar, UN Biodiversity and Climate Change Conferences 2024 with the Maryknoll delegation that attended the two recent UN conferences. The urgency of both issues is overwhelming.
The average global temperature in 2024 exceeded pre-industrial levels by over 1.5° degrees Celsius. This affects all forms of life, and experts now believe we are in the midst of a mass extinction event, the sixth in Earth's history.
Progress on climate change cannot be achieved without cutting back on fossil fuels, which is why the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns recently joined a letter to members of the Senate in opposition to the Energy Permitting Reform Act, a bill that would increase oil and gas leases on public land and waters, expand mining operations on public lands, and speed-up approval process for Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) export terminals.
Join Tuesday's webinar for an update on both UN conferences and send a message to your senators urging them to oppose the Energy Permitting Reform Act using the form below.
