The 2024 Catholic Nonviolence Days of Action will take place September 21 (World Peace Day) to October 2 (International Day of Nonviolence). The theme this year is “Walking Together Builds Unity and Nonviolence.” Catholic Nonviolence Days of Action are co-sponsored by Pax Christi International’s Catholic Nonviolence Initiative.
The Catholic Nonviolence Initiative has achieved much since its inception in Rome in 2016. Eight years on we welcome the launch of the Catholic Institute for Nonviolence in Rome on 29 September. The Institute aims to strengthen the theological, pastoral, strategic, and experiential foundations of active nonviolence and provide essential support to the emerging discipline of nonviolence studies around the world.
The panel for the launch will reflect these disciplines and experiences and include Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, SDB, Myanmar, Sister Wamũyũ Teresia Wachira, IBVM from Kenya and co-president of Pax Christi International, Cardinal Robert McElroy, San Diego CA, USA and Dr. Maria Stephan, renowned author, researcher and speaker on the effectiveness of nonviolence.
At the same event, the 2023 Pax Christi Award will be given to the Parents Circle – Families Forum, an Israeli-Palestinian organization of more than 700 families who have lost members of their family in the ongoing conflict. Their faithful work and vision for peace for the region offer a practical expression of nonviolence in action.
The 2024 solidarity action for the days is to learn about and then write messages of solidarity to the Parents Circle in Israel and Palestine.
The event will be livestreamed from 10:00AM EDT on September 29th. Register here to receive a link to the livestream on the Pax Christi International YouTube channel.
