Virtual event: Racism and the Filipino Immigrant Experience

Join a webinar that will examine Filipino history and culture to help address violence against Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Co-organized by the US-6 JPIC Working Group and the Asian American Committee, the webinar, Racism & the Filipino Immigrant Experience, is scheduled for Thurs., May 19, at 4 p.m. EDT (3 p.m. CDT, 2 p.m. MDT, and 1 p.m. PDT).

In this webinar, scholars in the field of Asian American studies will examine the history of anti-Asian racism and explore the possibilities for solidarity through a Filipino American lens.

The webinar panel will feature Dr. Nerissa Balce, a Manila native and cultural studies scholar who is associate professor of Asian American studies at SUNY Stony Brook; Dr. Joy Sales, an assistant professor of Asian American studies at California State University, Los Angeles, and Dr. Michael Viola, an associate professor in the justice, community and leadership program at St. Mary’s College of California.
