50th anniversary of the March on Washington
This month marks the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., gave his famous “I have a dream” speech. To continue the struggle for equality and justice, a large coalition of groups will be holding a National Action to Realize the Dream March on Saturday, August 24, starting at 8 a.m. at the Lincoln Memorial, followed by a walk to the MLK Memorial.
This is a great opportunity to join with others (including United for Peace and Justice and Fund Our Communities) in opposing the “triplets of evil” that Dr. King warned against: racism, poverty/materialism, and militarism.
For those who want to participate in a group, Pax Christi is inviting members and friends to gather at the Simón Bolívar statue at 18th and C Streets, NW, at 7:30 a.m. We can process from there to the Lincoln Memorial with the Pax Christi Metro DC-Baltimore banner. You’re encouraged to bring handmade signs noting the evil triplets, calling for funds to be redirecting from the military to human needs, etc.
