February 8 is the feast of St. Josephine Bakhita, patron saint of Sudan and of those dedicated to ending human trafficking. Born in Darfur, she was enslaved as a child and eventually sold to diplomat her took her to Italy where she valiantly asserted her freedom with the help of the Canossian Sisters of Venice. February 8 is also the International Day of Prayer and Awareness against human trafficking.
Please mark your calendars and join us for a special intercultural mass, Saturday, February 8 at 4:30 at St. Camillus Church in Silver Spring. We will gather for prayer, reflection, and action to end the scourge of human trafficking.
Pope John Paul II canonized her in October 2000 noting in this woman, “We find a shining advocate of genuine emancipation.”
