We are deeply disturbed by the news coming from the border of the treatment of Haitian asylum seekers by U.S. authorities, the inhumane conditions they are facing, and the reports of deportation flights leaving for Haiti daily. We know that the United States is capable of managing a just humanitarian response to the influx of Haitian asylum seekers, starting with halting deportations.
Haiti is facing numerous concurrent crises and their government has asked for a “humanitarian moratorium” for deportations for the immediate future.
