Join the Interfaith Immigration Coalition’s Advocacy to Congress
As Congress negotiates funding for mass deportations and cruel policies against people on the move, our faith calls us to act to uphold dignity, compassion and justice.
On March 11, the Interfaith Immigration Coalition (IIC) met with members of Congress to urge them to uphold the dignity of migrants and refugees by ensuring a moral immigration budget. Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns is among the groups that make up the IIC.
We are asking Congress to:
- Support a moral immigration budget that directs resources toward refugee resettlement, legal assistance, and community-based alternatives to detention, rather than expanding enforcement and detention.
- Hold the administration accountable to court rulings that protect the rights of asylum seekers and ensure just and humane immigration policies.
- Defend the sanctity of religious spaces by ensuring that ICE respects places of worship as sacred spaces, free from immigration raids and enforcement actions.
As Catholics we are called to welcome the stranger. That is why a group of U.S. Bishops is holding a National Novena for Migrants and Immigrants this Lent, from March 14 to 22, including the feast days of St. Patrick and St. Joseph, traditionally celebrated by Irish and Italian immigrants in the United States.
