Christmas Hope for Sudan
On Christmas Day, in churches around the world, we celebrate the birth of our savior Jesus and we say “For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.” (Psalm 89)
Maryknoll missioners cross borders to some of the darkest places in the world to accompany people suffering from sickness, hunger, poverty, war. We often find people eager to work with us to build bridges of solidarity that reflect and share God’s love and compassion.
This Christmas we ask you to take action for Sudan.
Sudan is widely described as the world’s largest and most forgotten humanitarian crisis. Millions are facing displacement and starvation, a collapsing health system, and severe violence, all stemming from the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. Nearly one year ago, on Jan. 7, 2025, the U.S. government officially stated there is a genocide happening in Sudan. According to the latest reports from the UN and international humanitarian organizations, the situation has only gotten worse.
Pray for peace in Sudan
Use this prayer offered by our friends at CAFOD, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development based in England and Wales. “Open the paths of peace, Lord,” the prayer says. May we be that opening!
Take action to protect lives in Sudan
Scroll down to tell Congress to:
(1) Enforce the arms embargo on Darfur.
(2) Demand an immediate end to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) attacks on civilians.
(3) Push the RSF to allow humanitarian access and safe passage for civilians trying to flee the violence.
Together, we can help to protect lives and build peace in Sudan.
