Turn Debt into Hope – Call on G7 Leaders for Global Financial Justice
As G7 leaders prepare to meet in Canada the weekend of June 13, Maryknoll representatives will join hundreds of people from around the world at the People’s Jubilee Summit in Calgary to call on world leaders to take action on the deepening global debt crisis. Today, over 3.3 billion people live in countries spending more on debt than on healthcare or education, blocking progress toward the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Take action: Urge U.S. representatives at the G7 meeting – President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent – to lead in advancing global debt justice.
Twenty-five years after the Jubilee 2000 movement won $100 billion in debt relief, the crisis has worsened. Pope Francis declared 2025 a Year of Jubilee – a call for debt cancellation and economic renewal.
Call on our leaders to tackle the root causes and push for a just, transparent, and binding global debt framework under the United Nations. And if you haven’t already, join the over 118,000 people who have signed the Jubilee petition.
Let’s turn debt into hope. Together, we can build a more just and sustainable global economy.
