Support Nuclear Arms Control

A dangerous countdown has begun:  In less than a year, on February 5, 2026, New START – the last remaining treaty limiting the world’s two largest nuclear arsenals – will expire. The Doomsday Clock has been set at 89 seconds to midnight – the closest we have ever been to global catastrophe. The threat of a nuclear war that would threaten life as we know it is greater now than at the height of the cold war. Pope Francis has called on all countries to rid the planet of these sinful weapons and abolish them forever.

The Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns invites you and other partners to join us in a campaign urging the United States and Russia to commit to a new nuclear arms control framework, and for worldwide support for nuclear disarmament. We will share resources and actions throughout the year.

Today, please write your members of Congress, and ask them to join a resolution urging President Trump to actively pursue a dialogue with the Russian Federation on a new nuclear arms control framework and avoid an unrestrained nuclear arms race. The president has stated his desire to do just this. Lawmakers can encourage him to put his words into action. Let them know how important this issue is to you.
