Stop the War with Iran and Lebanon
We stand at a critical crossroads for peace in the Middle East and a defining moment of conscience for our country. Many of us were deeply alarmed by the violent threats made by the President on Easter Sunday and grateful for the ongoing teaching of Pope Leo XIV. While we breathe a collective sigh of relief regarding the temporary ceasefire in the U.S.-Israel war on Iran, we cannot afford to mistake a pause for peace. Now is the time for deeper prayer, study, and action.
PRAYER
Tune in for a special Prayer Vigil for Peace led by Pope Leo XIV in Saint Peter’s Basilica on Saturday, April 11 at 12pm Eastern Time. Watch the Livestream on the Vatican News YouTube Channel.
We invite you to pray the Maryknoll Litany for Peace, asking for God’s peace and protection for the people of Iran and throughout the Middle East.
STUDY
Read Pope Leo’s Easter message, in which the Holy Father issues a strong plea for peace, and condemnation of the “idolatry of profit” and widespread violence, calling on humanity to overcome indifference and foster a nonviolent, resurrected hope.
Read and share the Maryknoll Joint Leadership Statement on the Iran War where the Maryknoll family draws on their experience among “those the world often forgets” to affirm that “even in the darkest hour, the path to reconciliation remains open to those who seek it.”
ACTION
Click Here to contact your Members of Congress and tell them to take these three vital steps:
- Pass the War Powers Resolutions: Prohibit any further unauthorized strikes on Iran. Congress must assert its constitutional duty to prevent an unchecked war.
- Block War Funding: Refuse to allocate further taxpayer dollars to the continuation of this conflict. Our resources should sustain life, not fund its destruction.
- Pass Sen. Sanders’ Joint Resolutions of Disapproval: Block further U.S. arms sales to the government of Israel. We must stop the flow of weapons that fuel widespread violence and humanitarian suffering.
Take Action Now: Send this message to your Representatives and Senators
Thank you for your commitment to the Gospel call of peacemaking.
