Join the Global Movement to Phase Out Fossil Fuels
This week, history will be made in Santa Marta, Colombia. From April 24 to 29, over 50 countries and hundreds of civil society organizations will gather for a week of activities centered on the first-ever Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels.
While recent COP summits have struggled to secure firm commitments on ending the fossil fuel era, this “conference of the willing” skips the debate over if we should transition and focuses entirely on how. The goal is to create a concrete roadmap for a just transition that prioritizes people and the planet over profit.
MOGC’s Lisa Sullivan and Olivia Engling will be on the ground sharing insights, collaborating with faith partners such as CIDSE to assure that social justice values are at the heart of these negotiations.
Faith communities can be the positive tipping point for climate justice. Care for creation is a tenet that connects us all, giving us the reach to catalyze real transformation. While international policy can move slowly, local momentum is surging. We are eager to see how this conference will amplify these grassroots efforts and accelerate the shift to a clean energy future.
